New Delhi: The Government of India has taken an important decision to set up campuses of major foreign universities like Yale University, Oxford University, and Stanford University in the country. In fact, taking an important step towards setting up campuses in India for foreign universities, the University Grants Commission (UGC) has issued a draft regulation.
In this, foreign universities will have to get approval from UGC to set up their campuses in India, while there will be a concession to decide the admission process and fee structure. The government led by PM Narendra Modi is taking these steps to provide foreign education to Indian students at an affordable price. At the same time, the government is pushing for a change in the highly regulated education sector of the country to make India an attractive global study destination. The move will also help foreign institutions strengthen the country's youth population.
Let us know that, even though India's universities and colleges have given CEOs of giants like Microsoft to Alphabet (Google), India's global ranking in this case is very poor. There is a need to boost our education sector to make the country more competitive and bridge the growing gap between college curriculum and market demand. India is currently ranked 101 out of 133 countries in the Global Talent Competitiveness Index of 2022. This index assesses the ability of a country to develop, attract and retain talent.
