International Yoga Day 2024: A Global Celebration of Wellness - June 21, 2024: As the world gears up for International Yoga Day on June 21, 2024, cities from Delhi to Srinagar and Washington to London are preparing for a grand celebration of this ancient practice. This year's theme, "Yoga for Self and Society," emphasizes the holistic benefits of yoga for individuals and communities alike.

Prime Minister Modi in Srinagar

Prime Minister Narendra Modi is set to visit Srinagar on June 20 to participate in the International Yoga Day celebrations, marking his first visit to Jammu and Kashmir since beginning his third consecutive term as PM. On June 21, at around 6:30 AM, PM Modi, along with over 7,000 participants, will perform yoga on the scenic banks of Dal Lake. The participants have undergone training over the past three days to prepare for the yoga asanas that will be performed. Additionally, the Prime Minister will attend the "Empowering Youth, Transforming J&K" event at the Sher-i-Kashmir International Conference Centre (SKICC) and inaugurate various development projects.

Global Celebrations

Washington D.C.: Yoga enthusiasts gathered at Wharf, overlooking the Potomac River, for a celebration ahead of International Yoga Day. The event, attended by India’s Deputy Ambassador to the US, Sripriya Ranganathan, began with prayers and Indian classical dance performances, highlighting yoga's role in creating harmony and balance.

London: Over 700 participants joined the High Commission of India in the UK at Trafalgar Square for a yoga event. The event drew a large crowd, celebrating the global recognition of yoga.

Karnataka: The National Yoga Olympiad-2024, inaugurated by Karnataka Governor Thawar Chand Gehlot, was held at the Regional Institute of Education (RIE), Manasagangothri in Mysore from June 18 to 20. The event, organized by the Union Ministry of Education and NCERT, highlighted India’s role as the "Guru of Yoga."

Delhi: The New Delhi Municipal Council organized yoga camps across the city on June 18. Locations such as Lodhi Garden, Talkatora Stadium, and Nehru Park saw enthusiastic participation, with people performing various yoga asanas.

Mumbai: The Shlloka Joshii Foundation held an event featuring visual yoga demonstrations. The celebration was graced by Padma Shri Swami Sivananda and Bollywood director Subhash Ghai, making it a grand affair.

As the world unites to celebrate International Yoga Day, the focus remains on promoting physical, mental, and spiritual well-being through the timeless practice of yoga.
