International Yoga Day:Om chanting dispute amid Yoga session

New Delhi: ”OM” the chanting mantras has been involved in the common practice ,as in the last year case on International Yoga Day on June 21, which causing a controversy alike to what was witnesses when the event was held prior.

Ayush Ministry has clarified that, “the practice or protocol is not at all compulsory, some political parties accused the government ofpushing its Hindutva agenda by asking participants to chant Vedic mantras and 'Om' before the 45-minute assembly.”

Meanwhile, officials in the Ayush ministry preserved that there is no change in the protocol, except for the addition of a few new postures.

Anil Kumar Ganeriwala, the joint secretary said that, “There are no changes to the protocol followed last year. It is not compulsory to chant 'Om' before the yoga session either. It is completely voluntary and one can remain silent. No one will object.”

Congress censured the BJP-led govt. for being insensitive, saying yoga, a great discipline of ancient India, does not belong to the saffron party.

JD(U) called it as yet another effort to impose the communal agenda on Indian masses.

June 21 ,on International Yoda Day , the “Commmon Yoga Portocol” unveiled by the ministry gives a outline for a 45 minute programme which consists meditation,yoga postures and chanting.

Ministrty added, “The protocol has been circulated among universities, schools and offices. It says the session should begin with a "prayer in any meditative posture with namaskara mudra".

The mantra to be recited amid the session has been taken from the Rig Veda.

As per the report, “a letter from the UGC to vice-chancellors requested their personal indulgence in celebrating the day in a befitting manner. Colleges have also been asked to draw up an action plan and "ensure wide participation of students and teachers".
