Shillong: Arson and sabotage are taking place after a militant surrendered in Meghalaya died in a police encounter. In view of this, curfew has been imposed in Shillong on Sunday and mobile internet services have been suspended in at least four districts. Meghalaya Home Minister Lahkmen Rymbui has already resigned amid the violence.

Meanwhile, the residence of Meghalaya's CM Conrad Sangma has also been attacked. The incidents of violence have not stopped even on Monday. According to The Latest Janakari, the vehicle of CRPF was attacked during curfew in the capital Shillong. Security forces then resorted to lathi-charge to clear the crowd. According to media reports, he was killed by police on August 13 in an encounter after surrendering a militant named Cheristerfield Thangkhiew.

Thangkhiu's body was buried on Sunday, after which incidents of violence were reported from these areas. Police said Thangkhiu had plotted several attacks with IED explosives after surrendering in 2018. Curfew has been imposed in Shillong from 8 pm on Sunday to 5 am on Tuesday.
