Meerut: The ongoing protest over the increasing citizenship bill has taken a new form in the last few days, while an alert is going on in western UP about the incident in Bawal and Aligarh Muslim University in South Delhi. DM Anil Dhingra said that internet services will be closed in the district till Tuesday evening (17 December). On Monday, the police-administration officials kept a close watch on the city. Police officers marched on foot in the city and countryside. The RAF is on call to deal with any situation.

According to media reports, it has been learned that all the districts of Meerut zone from Lucknow have been asked to take special vigilance. DM had given instructions to stop internet services from the night of 15 December to 16 December in the district in view of law and peace and order. On Monday, 16 December 2019, the District Magistrate said that Internet services will be closed till Tuesday evening. The intelligence department is also keeping a sharp eye. Demonstrations and processions are banned completely. Top officials are keeping an eye on CCSU, all private universities, and educational institutions for safety. In the educational institutions where students of other states are studying, the police is also keeping a close watch.

On the other hand, when asked about the officials, they have said that Section 144 is applicable in the district. In such a situation, no crowds should be allowed anywhere. Police forces were on patrol in Kotwali, Dehli Gate, Hapur Adda, Bhumiya Ka Pul, L Block, Lisadigate, Macheran, Lalkurti, Zakir Colony in the city. There was security in Mawana, Parikshitgarh, Abdullapur, Kithore, and Sardhana in the countryside.
