Central Bureau of Investigation has moved to a court seeking permission to conduct narco-analysis test on Karti Chidambaram who has been arrested in connection with the INX Media money laundering case.

The investigating agency has pleaded before special Judge Sunil Rana who scheduled the hearing of the plea on March 9 along with two other pleas seeking production warrants of Junior Chidambaram’s chartered accountant S Bhaskaraman arrested in the INX Media money laundering case and Indrani Mukherjea, who is the co-accused in the case.

Karti Chidambaram was sent to three-day CBI custody after he was produced at the court on Tuesday in an extension of the five day CBI custody initially granted. The court said the extension was necessary for maintaining continuity in the probe and collect evidence to discover the truth. Special Judge Sunil Rana stated that the investigation has progressed substantially but a further probe is required.

Karti Chidambaram has termed his arrest as “illegal and arbitrary” claiming the case against him is politically motivated in an attempt to tarnish the reputation of his father former finance minister P. Chidambaram.

Additional Solicitor General Tushar Mehta, appearing for CBI, told the court that Karti is not co-operating with the investigation by not revealing his phone password and repeatedly claiming his ‘political victimization”.
