Pakistan's young batsman Babar Azam has been one of the best batsmen in world cricket in recent years. Inzamam responds to the debate of Virat Kohli vs Babar Azam: On the comparison of Kohli and Babar Azam, former Pakistani captain and chief selector Inzamam-ul-Haq said that Azam's development as a star performer was due to the confidence shown in him by the team management. According to the report, 'Inzamam told a TV channel, Babur initially struggled in Test cricket but we never doubted his ability, so we remained with him and see that he is standing in every format today.' He also called Babar Azam and Shahin Afridi as future stars. Inzamam said that Kohli has played much more cricket than Azam, but Babar's record at this point of his career is not bad at all.
Inzamam said, 'Babur is often compared to Virat Kohli but he (Kohli) has played far more cricket and if you look at his stats, Azam has not done anything bad.' Whether or not Babar Azam can achieve the same height, time will tell but in the coming years, he will be a big hope of Pakistani batting. 31-year-old Virat has so far scored 11867 runs in 248 ODIs with 43 centuries and 58 half-centuries, and 7240 runs in 86 Tests with 27 centuries and 22 half-centuries, while he has scored 1794 runs in 82 T20 Internationals. 25-year-old Babar Azam, who is six years younger than Kohli, has scored 1850 runs in 26 Tests with the help of 5 centuries, 13 half-centuries, while in 334 runs and 38 T20 International matches with 1471 runs in 74 ODIs with the help of 11 centuries and 15 half-centuries.
