After the poor performance of the Pakistan team in the 2019 World Cup, Sarfaraz was removed from the captaincy. On a TV channel in Pakistan, former captain Inzamam said, 'Sarfaraz as captain has won some great victories for Pakistan. He was learning to be a good captain. But when he was gaining experience as a captain, only then he was removed from the captaincy.

PCB made haste by removing Sarfaraz from the captaincy: Inzamam, who was the chief selector of Pakistan from 2016 to 2019 World Cup, further said, 'Sarfaraz won us the champion trophy. He made the Pakistan team the number one team in the world in T20 cricket. He gave us some great wins. The Pakistan Cricket Board should have given him more time as a captain. The board has made haste by removing him from the captaincy. He further said that the captain's own performance may deteriorate. Because he has to focus too much on other players. Every captain learns over time and becomes good. There is no short cut. Inzamam further said that people praise Imran Khan's captaincy. But he also won the World Cup in the country in the third attempt as captain. He said, Imran Khan won the 1992 World Cup, because by that time he had become a great captain. He used to inspire his players and teach them to win and fight every match. But this ability in Imran came with time.
