New Delhi: Every year, fans eagerly wait for the Indian Premier League (IPL). Be it stadiums, TVs or mobiles, there is competition everywhere to watch matches. But in IPL 2022, so far, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has suffered a major setback. This shock has been given by the fans. In fact, in the current IPL season, 16 matches have been played till April 8. The tournament began on March 26. In the first week, TV ratings dropped by 33 per cent. The BCCI will soon have to sell the media rights of the IPL for the 2023-27 season. In such a situation, it could be a big blow for the BCCI.

BARC has reported data from March 26 to April 1. During this time, 8 matches were played in the IPL 2022 season. According to the data, the TV rating in 8 matches has been 2.52. If we compare it to the previous season, the TV rating in the first week of the 2021 IPL was 3.75. In such a situation, this time the TV rating has dropped by 33 per cent. Earlier, in the first week of the 2020 season, the TV rating was 3.85. That is, for the second time in a row, the rating has declined. Not only the ratings but also talking about the number of viewers, has also registered a decline. This time, 14 per cent less than 229.06 million people watched the match in the first week (all through). Last year, 267.7 million spectators watched the IPL matches.

It is generally seen that whenever the IPL starts, the channel showing the tournament in the first week reaches the Number-1 spot in terms of BARC's chart i.e. rating. This time it hasn't happened. Star Sports 1 Hindi channel is currently at number 3. This suggests that in the first week, the IPL has not been able to show its magic.
