TEHRAN: Iran has urged the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) to refrain from "politicising" issues related to the country's nuclear programme.

Iran's deputy chief of the judiciary and a former envoy to the IAEA, Kazem Gharibabadi, was quoted by Iran's Press TV as saying that Iran has cooperated with the agency "in good faith and transparency" and has provided "adequate explanations" to the IAEA's questions, as per Xinhua reports.

He was responding to a report released by the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) last week that said "undeclared" nuclear materials found in three Iranian facilities remained unresolved. The "continuous political pressure that the United States and several Western countries have been placing on the agency," according to Gharibabadi, is one reason why the IAEA emphasised the issue and put it high on its agenda.

At the upcoming IAEA Board of Governors meeting, he emphasised Iran's opposition to any anti-Iran resolution. "I hope that Western countries and the United States come to their senses and decide not to officially submit the resolution because they recognise that doing so will exacerbate the issue," he added.

For the IAEA Board of Governors meeting, the US, UK, France, and Germany are said to be preparing a draught resolution on Iran's nuclear programme.
