Tehran: In a dramatic escalation of tensions, Iran launched a massive assault on Israel early Sunday, unleashing hundreds of drones, ballistic missiles, and cruise missiles. The attack, which numbered more than 300 launches according to military sources, brought air raid sirens blaring across Israel as explosions rocked the region.

Rear Adm. Daniel Hagari described the attack as a "significant strategic success" for Iran, revealing that it included 170 drones, over 30 cruise missiles, and more than 120 ballistic missiles. While most of the projectiles were intercepted, several ballistic missiles managed to reach Israeli territory, causing minor damage to an air base and injuring civilians, including a young girl.

President Joe Biden swiftly condemned the attack, pledging U.S. support for Israel's defense efforts. He emphasized the need for a unified response from international allies to address the escalating situation.

The Iranian assault marks a significant escalation in hostilities between Iran and Israel, with direct military confrontation between the two countries unfolding for the first time. The attack comes on the heels of heightened tensions following a suspected Israeli airstrike in Syria earlier this month, which Iran attributed to Israel.

The United Nations, France, Britain, and Germany all condemned Iran's actions, warning of the potential for further military escalation in the region. Israel's military vowed to defend its security interests, with Hagari affirming that the army will take all necessary measures to protect the state.

As Israel braces for potential retaliation and further attacks, the region remains on high alert, with air raid sirens sounding across multiple locations and residents urged to seek shelter. The international community, including the United States, closely monitors the situation amid growing concerns of a wider conflict in the Middle East.

The Iranian Revolutionary Guard claimed responsibility for the attack, warning the U.S. against any interference in Iran's affairs. The incident underscores the fragile geopolitical landscape in the region and the urgent need for diplomatic efforts to de-escalate tensions and prevent further violence.
