NEW DELHI: During delegation-level meetings here, Visiting Iranian Foreign Minister Hossein Amir Abdollahian and External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar discussed enhancing bilateral relations and strategic affairs, according to an official release.
The two Ministers discussed the "entire gamut of bilateral relations, including political, cultural, and people-to-people relationships" during their talks on Wednesday, according to a statement released by the Minister of External Affairs.
Amir Abdollahian is visiting New Delhi for the first time since taking office in August 2021.
Jaishankar "appreciated Iran's participation in facilitating India's medical assistance to Afghanistan, particularly the supply of Covid-19 vaccinations to Afghan nationals residing in Iran," according to the Ministry.
"Both sides recognised the importance of bilateral cooperation in the sector of regional connectivity and discussed the progress made at the Chabahar Port's Shahid Beheshti terminal." The two parties agreed that the Chabahar Port has given landlocked Afghanistan much-needed sea access and has developed as a regional commercial transportation hub, including for Central Asia.
"They reaffirmed their willingness to work together on the development of Chabahar Port." Teams from both countries will meet soon to discuss operational issues, according to the Ministry statement.
