BEIJING: At a virtual summit, BRICS customs authorities pledged to strengthen cooperation on intelligent customs, media reported.
According to Xinhua, Sun Yuning, deputy chairman of China's General Administration of Customs, "customs cooperation between BRICS countries has witnessed positive outcomes since the establishment of the cooperation mechanism in 2013, while bilateral commerce has maintained stable growth."
According to official figures, China's bilateral commerce with BRICS countries (Brazil, Russia, India, China, South Africa) totalled 490.42 billion US dollars in 2021, up 39.2% year on year and greater than the overall amount of China's global trade during the same year.
Sun Yuning recommended that all parties gradually increase the intelligence level of customs infrastructure, monitoring methods, and administrative management, as well as establish cross-border coordinated governance among border administration agencies.
In the face of present risks and challenges, the participants vowed on Tuesday to ensure that BRICS nations' customs administrations continue to collaborate to protect the international supply chain and support speedy economic and trade recovery.
