Surat: Cricketer Irfan Pathan faced backlash from Islamists after he posted a picture with his wife without a burqa on their eighth anniversary. While celebrating his love for his wife, Pathan shared the picture with a heartfelt caption, expressing his gratitude for her various roles in their journey together. The caption read, “Infinite roles mastered by one soul – mood booster, comedian, troublemaker, and the constant companion, friend, and mother of my children. In this beautiful journey, I cherish you as my wife. Happy 8th my love.”

However, the unveiling of his wife's face in the photo led to criticism from some Islamists, who commented on his post. “Muslim khatoons ko hijab mein rehna chaye,” replied one of the users. Syed Umer wrote, "What is the purpose of showing the face?? To satisfy sanghis??????" "Are you happy? Your wife is being sexualized now? What a downfall," commented Afreen Fatima Ali. Another user said, "What is the purpose of showing the face of your wife to all the world?" Another one replied, “Being a Muslim, you should not reveal her publicly.”
Irfan Pathan, who married Saba Baig in 2016, had previously refrained from sharing pictures of his wife's face online. The couple has a son named Imran Khan. The controversy surrounding hijab bans in schools and colleges in 2022 also highlighted the debate around personal choices and religious practices, with some arguing that wearing a hijab is a matter of individual rights and others emphasizing the religious obligation to wear it.
