New Delhi: While discussing the Demands for Grants (2022-23) of the Ministry of Railways in the Lok Sabha, Union Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnav has bluntly said that the privatization of Railways is not being done. Union Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnav was replying to a discussion on the Demands for Grants of the Ministry of Railways.

During this, the Union Minister said that many members raised the issue that the government is trying to privatize the railways. He said, 'Whose track belong to - railway, track whose - railway's, station whose - railway's, whose wire - to whose railway, engine whose - railway, train coach - whose railway's, whose signaling system is - railway. Where does the talk of privatization arise from here? It is very clear that there is no talk of privatization of railways.

The Union Minister further said that some members said that some freight trains are being privatized, which is not true at all. It is clearly written for the Railways in the policy of the Government of India that Railways is a strategic sector. This sector has social responsibilities. There are commercial obligations as well, in view of them there is no scope for privatization of railways. He further said that the issue of privatization of railways which some members have raised is fictional.
