Everyone sometimes needs a little push in their life! “Opportunities don’t happen. You create them.” Whether you are venturing a new career path or need a burst of motivation, this inspiring life success unique story will remind you that success is possible!!

Gazing at the Hagia Sophia Mosque in Turkey stood a lanky fellow, half bald with a full smile that he camouflaged into a grin. Basking in the sun soaked air of Istanbul while sipping the famous Turkish tea he finally takes some time off from the never ending phone calls from clients, whom he helps to create wealth through investments and insuring them, their loved ones so that they can live a carefree life. The man is none other than Mathew P Joseph, director of the reputed financial services firm MathewFinserve a name that requires no introduction in the Insurance and Financial Services sector in Central India.

The other day at a glittering function, Mathew was honored for his continuous association of 20 years with ICICI Prudential Life Insurance Company. This honor is the latest among numerous awards and accolades in a storied career of two decades; dedicated to hard work, filled with grit, always keeping people as the primary focus of his work. Having traversed to more than 20 countries with his family beside him, as part of various success recognitions, Mathew feels all this to be surreal. Surreal implies when you learn where he comes from, his struggles and challenges that life has a habit of throwing at people who know where they are going.

It all began in a small town Pala in the District of Kottayam, Kerala State in India where a wide eyed teenage Mathew, who in his spare time shadowed a famous priest yet partaking in simple joys of life, oblivious of the destiny that awaited him. With his studies completed, on a whim he decided to go to ‘Vadke India’ the local reference for North India; a land as alien to a South Indian as it would be for anyone from any part of the world. Like any South Indian lad he was advised to take up a job in the organized sector and get settled, which indeed he did.

Not a man to succumb to the plate offered by circumstances Mathew now married to  Katrina (Shiny) and proud father of two lovely daughters decided to take a plunge into the unknown; a world that would bring him name, fame, success and the love of thousands.

Starting as an Insurance agent, coy in appearance, determined with grit, with no contacts to pitch, Mathew resorted to cold calling; the most dreaded arsenal in the stable of an Insurance agent. With Hindi not being his mother tongue, he struggled and struggled but looked at the rejections not as disappointments as part of the process. With Katrina by his side, lady luck had to shine upon him.  Mathew started to sell small ticket Insurance to people in the service sector; a practice he still follows with his team even today. With time those people with meager incomes grew in stature, yet stuck with Mathew for their growing investment needs. Sensing the opportunities, he went back to learning and passed necessary certifications like LUTCF to be able to offer instruments like Mutual funds, fixed income securities etc. to his clients.

During the course of his long career, Mathew P Joseph has been an achiever in every sense. He has been part of the MDRT (Million Dollar Round Table) for the past 22 years and has been designated a life member by this premier International body of Insurance Service Providers. He has also achieved COT (Court of the Table) and TOT (Top of the Table) recognitions under the aegis of this organization, these being the highest honorary positions aspired by any Insurance professional worldwide.

With Success comes confidence and so does the tendency for arrogance to creep in. Contrary to the trappings of success and fame, Mathew remains the ever approachable next door man who takes everyday as it comes and never shies away from an opportunity to be involved with the community in helping the needy; without letting anybody know, for he believes when you help someone, it’s not you but the Almighty Lord who chooses you to be the instrument to help them. That one should not question his ways but remain steadfast on the path you have been chosen to follow.

Mathew remains the shining example of succeeding the old fashioned way, the right way and also making the rest of us believe that good guys don’t always finish last.
