Pitru Paksha, also known as Shradh Paksha, is considered very important for liberation from Pitru Dosha. This year Pitru Paksha is starting on 17 September 2024 and will continue till Ashwin Amavasya, which will end on 2 October 2024. During this period, Shradh, Tarpan and Pinddaan are performed for the ancestors for 16 days. It is believed that during this period the dead ancestors come to earth and meet their relatives and are satisfied with the rituals performed by the relatives.

Effect of eclipse: This year there are going to be two eclipses during Pitru Paksha. The second lunar eclipse will occur on 18 September 2024 on the day of Bhadrapada Purnima, which will not be visible in India. Similarly, the last solar eclipse of the year will occur on 2 October 2024 on the day of Ashwin Amavasya, which will also be invisible in India. Due to these eclipses, Sutak Kaal will not be valid.

Precautions during Pitru Paksha : Although the eclipse will not be visible in India, eclipses are not considered auspicious in Hinduism. When two eclipses occur in a gap of 15 days, it is considered even more inauspicious. Therefore, special precautions need to be taken during Pitru Paksha.

On the first day of Pitru Paksha: Start Pratipada Shradh only after Mokshakaal ends. On the last day of Pitru Paksha: The solar eclipse will occur at night, so complete all the rituals related to Pitru Paksha during the day. In this way, the solar eclipse will not have any effect on Pitru Paksha.
