Israeli forces have been accused by aid groups of entering the premises of another hospital in Gaza after days of bombing the surrounding area. The Palestine Red Crescent Society reported on Tuesday that Israeli troops entered the Amal Hospital in Khan Younis, located within a compound housing the aid group's local headquarters and ambulance center. The compound was hosting thousands of displaced individuals, who were ordered to evacuate as Israeli tanks moved in, firing live ammunition and smoke grenades. The Red Crescent stated that heavy shelling and gunfire had resulted in at least one death and nine injuries among the displaced earlier in the day.
The Israeli military denied operating "inside" the hospital or issuing evacuation orders but did not address specific actions around the compound. Accusations have been made by Israel against Hamas, alleging the use of hospitals as command centers, leading to raids on healthcare facilities throughout Gaza. These include Shifa Hospital in Gaza City, Awda Hospital in Jabalia, Kamal Adwan Hospital in Beit Lahia, and Khair Hospital near Khan Younis. Hamas and Palestinian officials have refuted these claims.
Last week, similar allegations were made regarding Hamas activity at Amal Hospital, which the Red Crescent strongly denied, condemning Israel's actions as a violation of international agreements protecting medical and humanitarian missions. The situation has been dire for around 7,000 displaced individuals seeking shelter around the hospital, with reports of the surgical ward closing due to oxygen shortages, deaths occurring during retrieval attempts, and difficulties in reaching the wounded amidst ongoing gunfire.
Late on Tuesday, the Red Crescent announced the death of a baby girl due to oxygen supply shortages, noting the retreat of Israeli vehicles from the hospital vicinity while gunfire and shelling persisted nearby.
