JERUSALEM: An Israeli wounded in the unusual bombings that rocked Jerusalem earlier this week has died, the hospital treating him announced on Saturday. He was the latest victim of the escalating violence in the Israeli-Palestinian conflict.

According to a statement from Jerusalem's Shaare Zedek Hospital, Tadesha Teshuma "was seriously wounded in an attack at the entrance to Jerusalem".

A 15-year-old Israeli-Canadian was also killed in Wednesday's twin blasts, which took place at a bus stop used by ultra-Orthodox Jews on the city's western exit.

An additional 13 people were injured in the first bombings on the disputed city since 2016, according to Israel's domestic security agency Shin Bet.

The attacks, which were celebrated by the Palestinian militant group Hamas, were carried out with explosives, according to a security source who spoke to AFP.

The bombings come amid an escalation of violence that has killed six Israelis and fourteen Palestinians in Jerusalem and the occupied West Bank this month.

Israeli security forces are still on high alert, and on Saturday, police in Jerusalem briefly closed a major road near the site of the bombing because of a suspicious package. Police said the incident was a false alarm.

During the Second Intifada in the early 2000s, Palestinian militants frequently bombed urban bus stops, including those in Jerusalem.

Much of the recent violence has been concentrated in the West Bank, where more than 125 Palestinians have died this year, according to an AFP count.

In attacks in Israel and the Palestinian territories, at least 26 Israelis have also been killed.
Israeli soldiers, Palestinian terrorists, and civilians on both sides, including many children, have all been killed.
