Israeli PM meets UAE FM to mark 2nd anniversary of diplomatic ties

JERUSALEM: Israeli Prime Minister and UAE Foreign minter met to celebrate the second anniversary of diplomatic ties. To commemorate the second anniversary of the normalisation of relations between the two nations, Israeli Prime Minister Yair Lapid met in Jerusalem with UAE Foreign Minister Sheikh Abdullah bin Zayed Al Nahyan.

According to a statement released by Lapid's office on Thursday, Lapid had a private discussion with Sheikh Abdullah before hosting a broader meeting with teams from both sides.

According to reports, the foreign minister of the UAE and three other government ministers arrived in Israel on Wednesday.

"Together, we are transforming the Middle East. We are transforming it from one of war and terrorism to one of peace and tolerance and cultural curiosity, from a bloodbath of violence and extremism "the Prime Minister of Israel said.

At the in the afternoon at the President's residence in Jerusalem, Israeli President Isaac Herzog hosted Sheikh Abdullah for an official luncheon. Herzog was informed by the UAE Foreign Minister that the agreement to restore diplomatic ties between the two nations in 2020 was "historic."

On Thursday, Sheikh Abdullah also visited Yad Vashem, Israel's Holocaust memorial in Jerusalem.  The UAE Foreign Minister left a message in the guest book that said, "We must take a daring step to construct a bridge of real peace for future generations."

Sheikh Abdullah is visiting Israel for the second time since the UAE and Israel resolved to normalise relations in September 2020. In September 2020, the UAE and Bahrain reached agreements to normalise their relations with Israel through US mediation. Sudan and Morocco later adopted the strategy.
