TEHRAN: The Iranian Intelligence Ministry announced on Wednesday that the arrested members of an Israel-linked spy network had sought to carry out a bomb attack in one of Iran's sensitive defence industry areas.

According to a Ministry statement reported by IRNA on Wednesday, Israel equipped the terrorists with the most complex combination procedures for detecting the target's geographical position and inflicting tremendous damage.

The seized goods included eight large and eight tiny bombs, four handguns, a huge amount of bullets, falsified identity cards, and other personal belongings, according to the statement.

According to Xinhua reports, the Ministry said on Saturday that Iran's security services had apprehended "all members of an Israeli spy network" planning terror attacks in Iran. However, Israel has yet to respond to Iran's charges.

Iran, which frequently expresses alarm about the supposed presence of Mossad in the autonomous Iraqi Kurdish region, launched a ballistic missile attack on the region in March, claiming to be targeting Israeli "strategic centres." Tehran claimed it was in retaliation for Israeli air strikes in Syria that killed Iranian military personnel.

The demonstrators were largely followers of influential Shiite cleric Muqtada al-Sadr, who recently stepped down from the political process in spite of having won the most seats in the October federal election. Protesters carried portraits of the cleric.
