According to researchers from the Indian Space Research Organization (ISRO), N95 mask is the most effective in preventing the spread of Covid-19. Researchers have told that to stop Covid-19, it is necessary that people wear masks no matter who they are. Researchers also noted that the risk of the virus spreading through the air is high due to infectious droplets produced during coughing and sneezing.

Padmanabh Prasanna Simha from ISRO and Prasanna Simha Mohan Rao from Sri Jayadeva Institute of Cardiovascular Sciences and Research in Karnataka have been involved in this research. In which they experimentally studied the flow fields of cough under different scenarios related to corona. The study, published in the Journal of Physics of Fluids, found that N95 mask virus is most effective in reducing the spread of cough.      

Scientists said that the N95 mask can reduce the initial speed of cough by up to 10 factors and limit its spread from 0.1 to 0.25 m. Conversely, coughing velocity can go up to three meters without a mask. They explained that even a simple disposable mask can bring this velocity down to 0.5 m. Simha said that even though a mask cannot filter all the particles if we can prevent the clouds of such particles from going too far then this is something better. They said that in situations where a good mask is not available, it would be good to reduce the spread of infection by wearing any mask.
