Mumbai: Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) leader Ajit Pawar on Friday (April 28) expressed displeasure over the statement of Congress National President Mallikarjun Kharge, in which he called PM Narendra Modi a 'poisonous snake'. When questioned by reporters about Kharge's objectionable remarks, Pawar quoted an old anecdote about how Yashwantrao Chavan, the first CM of Maharashtra, used to respond maturely to his criticism.

Let us tell you that while addressing an election rally in Karnataka, Kharge had called PM Modi a poisonous snake on Thursday. He had said, "PM Modi is a poisonous snake, whoever tastes it will die." However, as the controversy escalated, Kharge clarified that his remarks were not for the Prime Minister but for the ruling BJP. But, by then Kharge's video had gone viral all over the internet. When asked about the same controversy, Pawar said that when writer-journalist PK Atre took a jibe at Yashwantrao Chavan, he (Chavan) showed maturity.

NCP leader Ajit Pawar said, "Today Narendra Modi is our Prime Minister. Earlier Manmohan Singh, Atal Bihari Vajpayee were on this post, it is not appropriate to make such statement about the Prime Minister of the country or the Chief Minister of the state." Pawar's statement has come at a time when there has been speculation about his political plans in Maharashtra for the last two weeks as he seemed soft towards the BJP. Pawar, however, insisted that he would never leave the NCP.
