Rome: Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni revealed on Friday that she has separated from her long-term partner, television journalist Andrea Giambruno. This decision comes in the wake of recent criticism surrounding Giambruno's controversial comments both on and off the air.

In a statement shared on her social media accounts, Meloni stated, "My relationship with Andrea Giambruno, which lasted almost 10 years, ends here." She acknowledged that their paths had been diverging for some time, and the moment had come to recognize it. Giorgia Meloni and Andrea Giambruno share a seven-year-old daughter.

Andrea Giambruno serves as the presenter of a news program broadcast by Mediaset, a media group owned by the heirs of the late Silvio Berlusconi, a former Italian prime minister and an ally of Giorgia Meloni.

In a troubling turn of events, another Mediaset show recently aired off-air excerpts from Giambruno's program that revealed him using offensive language and making advances toward a female colleague. The footage, broadcast on two separate days this week, raised significant concerns. In one instance, Giambruno remarked to a female colleague, "Why didn't I meet you before?"

In a more explicit recording, which aired on Thursday, Giambruno was heard boasting about an affair and suggested to female colleagues that they could work for him if they participated in group activities of a sexual nature.

This is not the first time Giambruno has faced backlash for his on-air comments. In August, he was widely criticized for victim-blaming remarks following a gang rape case. He suggested that individuals who avoid excessive alcohol consumption could potentially prevent certain problems, drawing considerable criticism and public outrage.

Meloni had previously commented on her partner's behavior, asserting that she should not be held accountable for his statements. She also stated that she would refrain from addressing questions related to his conduct in the future.
