Indore: In Madhya Pradesh, now the officials will not have to be informed about conversion to marry a lover-girlfriend of another religion. The Jabalpur High Court of the state has considered this law as constitutionally wrong, eliminating the obligation to give information to the DM before marrying in any other religion.

According to the High Court, adult youth are free not only to marry of their own free will but also to choose religion. The judges who gave this decision have termed this law of the state government as a rule that disturbs the youth. This order from the High Court has been issued on Monday (November 14). This order has been given by the bench of Justice Sujoy Paul and Justice PC Gupta from Jabalpur High Court. Both the judges have considered the rule of first informing the DM in inter-religious marriage as a violation of the constitutional rights of the adults. The HC has ordered the government not to take any coercive action in the matter till further orders. As of now, the court has granted interim relief to all 7 petitioners.

According to reports, the Jabalpur High Court has given the state government three weeks to present its case. The debate in the court took place on Section 10 of the Freedom of Religion Act-2021 implemented by the Madhya Pradesh government. There is a provision of a Rs 1 lakh fine and 10 years imprisonment for those who violate this law. A total of 7 petitions were filed against the Freedom of Religion Act 2021 implemented by the Madhya Pradesh government. These 7 petitions have been filed by Amritansh Nema, Suresh Carlton, LS Hardenia, Azam Khan, Richard James, Aradhana Bhargava, and Samuel Daniel. The counsel for these petitioners is Manoj Sharma, Qazi Farkhruddin, Sandhya Rajak, and Himanshu Mishra. On the next hearing, the court also asked the petitioners to come with full preparation.
