AMARAVATI:  Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister Y.S. Jagan Mohan Reddy and his family paid tribute to the late Dr. Y.S. Rajasekhar Reddy, who served as the state's chief minister, on the occasion of his 13th death anniversary

The chief minister attended a prayer meeting and paid floral tributes at the YSR Ghat, at Idupulapaya in YSR Cudappah district here on Friday. The prayer meeting was attended by his mother Y.S. Vijayamma, wife Bharathi Reddy, family members, well-wishers, and party leaders.

The chief minister posted on Twitter:  Even though my father has physically left us his effervescent smile and fond memories are with us. He had redefined welfare for the first time in India and proved fulfilling peoples' aspirations is the main feature of governance. This Government is going forward in his footsteps in the true spirit.

In the undivided state of Andhra Pradesh, Dr. Rajasekhar Reddy was without a doubt the Congress' unchallenged leader. He guided the party to triumphs in the state in the elections of 2004 and 2009. The Congress' victory in Andhra Pradesh during these two elections had a significant role in the party gaining control of the federal government from 2004 to 2014.

However, he could not complete his second tenure as chief minister as he lost his life in a helicopter mishap.
Jagan Reddy founded the YSRCP and swept to victory in the 2019 Assembly elections in the remnant state of Andhra Pradesh after the Congress high command declined to consider him for the position of chief minister following the passing away of his father.
