New Delhi: Rajya Sabha Chairman Jagdeep Dhankhar has declined the Aam Aadmi Party's (AAP) request to appoint Raghav Chadha as the interim leader in the Upper House of Parliament. In response to AAP Chief Arvind Kejriwal's letter proposing Chadha's appointment, Dhankar stated that the request does not comply with 'The Leaders and Chief Whips of Recognised Parties and Groups in Parliament (Facilities) Act, 1998,' and the accompanying Rules. Consequently, Sanjay Singh will continue as the leader of AAP in the Rajya Sabha, maintaining the status quo. The AAP, with 10 MPs, holds the fourth-largest strength in the Rajya Sabha after the BJP, Congress, and TMC.

Arvind Kejriwal, in his letter to Dhankhar, had suggested Raghav Chadha's interim appointment due to Sanjay Singh's purported health issues. However, Dhankhar's response emphasized the necessity of adhering to the applicable legal framework. Sanjay Singh, who is presently incarcerated in connection with the Delhi liquor policy case, remains the leader of AAP in the Rajya Sabha. Raghav Chadha, one of the youngest members representing Punjab in the Rajya Sabha, contributes to the AAP's 10-member strength in the Upper House.

This development underscores the political dynamics within the AAP and its representation in the Rajya Sabha, with Chadha's proposed appointment facing legal constraints and Singh's continuation as the interim leader despite his ongoing legal issues.
