The counting of votes for the Jammu & Kashmir assembly elections is set to take place on October 8. Election officials have confirmed that the process will commence at 8 a.m. All party representatives and officials are expected to be present at the counting centers by 5 a.m. to ensure a smooth operation. Poll officials will receive briefings and will be ready at their respective counting tables by 6 a.m.

The counting will initiate with postal ballots, which are specifically designated for individuals such as persons with disabilities, security personnel, and essential service government employees. After postal ballots, the votes cast through Electronic Voting Machines (EVMs) will be counted.

Preliminary trends are anticipated to be available by midday, providing a glimpse into the election outcomes. However, a clearer picture is expected to emerge by late afternoon when results for each constituency will be announced upon the completion of the counting process. India employs a first-past-the-post electoral system, meaning that the candidate with the most votes in each constituency will win.

The Jammu and Kashmir Assembly Elections were conducted in three phases. The first phase saw a voter turnout of 61.38% on September 18, followed by 57.31% in the second phase on September 25. The final phase, which took place on October 1, recorded a notable turnout of 65.48% by 5 p.m. The results for the assembly elections will be declared on October 8.
