Jammu: A 29-year-old Army major allegedly shot himself with his service rifle at a camp in the Ramban district of Jammu-Kashmir. The officials reported this on Sunday. Officials said Delhi resident Major Parwinder Singh was in his residential quarters inside the camp at Mhowbal in the Khari area of Banihal on Saturday night when he allegedly shot himself with an AK rifle.

He said the officers were recently associated with the camp as company commanders. Officials said the reason behind the officer's move is not known. The police have started an investigation. In Jammu and Kashmir, a terrorist has been killed in an encounter between security forces and terrorists in Avantipora. Kashmir police reported this. In fact, there were reports of terror hiding in the Baragam area of Avantipora, after which police and army reached there and the terrorists opened fire. One terrorist has since been killed by security forces in the encounter.

The same was recently attacked by terrorists at Gulshan Chowk in Bandipora, Jammu, and Kashmir. Two soldiers were killed in the attack. According to Jammu and Kashmir police, Mohammad Sultan and Fayaz Ahmed were injured in the terror attack. The two were then taken to the hospital. Doctors here declared him brought dead. Kashmir Zone Police said the area has been cordoned off to search for the terror.
