Jammu: The Jammu and Kashmir Official Language Bill was passed in the Lok Sabha on Tuesday. The Bill has been introduced by Minister of State for Home Affairs Kishan Reddy in the House. The bill was opposed by National Conference MP Hasnain Masoudi, but the bill was given full support in the lower house. The new bill will have official languages 'Urdu, Kashmiri, Dogri, Hindi and English' in Jammu and Kashmir.

On passing the bill, Home Minister Amit Shah has expressed happiness "A momentous day for the people of J&K as Jammu Kashmir Official Languages (Amendment) Bill was passed in Lok Sabha. With this historic bill...The long-awaited dream of the people of J&K comes true! Kashmiri, Dogri, Urdu, Hindi and English will now be the official languages of J&K". Special efforts are also proposed to be made for the development of major regional languages like 'Gojari', 'Pahari' and 'Punjabi' through this unprecedented bill. The bill will also strengthen other existing institutional frameworks like the Jammu and Kashmir Institute of Arts, Culture and Languages,"

Amit Shah said, "I thank PM @narendramodi Ji for his commitment towards restoring the culture of Jammu and Kashmir through this bill. I also want to assure our sisters and brothers of Jammu and Kashmir that the Modi govt will leave no stone unturned to bring back the glory of Jammu and Kashmir."
