Srinagar: After the removal of Section 370 and Article 35A, the eyes of the entire country are now pinned on the upcoming assembly elections in Jammu and Kashmir. According to Election Commission sources, the Jammu and Kashmir Assembly elections will be held only in 2021. The reason is the delimitation in Jammu and Kashmir. According to Election Commission sources, the process of delimitation may take at least 10 to 15 months after getting the green signal from the Home Ministry and the delimitation commission is constituted.
According to sources, the process will start only after October 31. But the Election Commission has prepared a complete blueprint for delimitation. The Election Commission will base the delimitation in Uttarakhand in 2000-2001 for delimitation in Jammu and Kashmir. The delimitation work will be completed in about 10 phases. Earlier, delimitation took place in Jammu and Kashmir in 1995. According to which there were a total of 111 seats in the Assembly.
Now, after the formation of a separate state of Ladakh, 4 seats will be reduced. The J&K Assembly will now have 107 seats in total. According to Election Commission sources, after delimitation, 7 assembly seats will be increased in Jammu and Kashmir. After which the total number of assembly seats in Jammu and Kashmir will be 114. Of which 24 assembly seats are reserved for POK. This clearly means that the next assembly elections in Jammu and Kashmir will be held in 90 seats.
