Srinagar: As August 15 approaches, terrorists are determined to commit a major crime in the Valley, but security forces are foiling their efforts with equal vigilance. A large number of weapons including 15 grenades and 5 pistols have been recovered from the Kanah area of north Kashmir. It is feared that the consignment of weapons was to be used as part of a conspiracy to commit a major crime.

A team of joint security forces recovered the weapons from near a government school in the Kanah area of North Kashmir's Kupwara district. Not only hand grenades but pistols and bullets have also been recovered from the area. According to sources, local police and jawans have also recovered about 150 pistol rounds during the search operation. In addition, 5 pistols, 15 grenades, 5 magazines, 3 detonators, a packet of brown sugar with 999 marks have also been recovered. Police have registered a case in this regard and started an investigation.

Earlier, Jammu and Kashmir Director General of Police (DGP) Dilbagh Singh had said on Wednesday that Pakistan-backed terrorist outfits like Lashkar-e-Taiba and Jaish-e-Mohammed were plotting a major attack in the Union Territory. He also stressed that security forces are on the alert to foil any such conspiracy.
