Chandigarh: The Haryana Assembly elections have been scheduled for October 1, with all 90 seats to be contested in a single phase. Results are expected to be announced on October 4. The announcement has led to significant turmoil within the Jannayak Janata Party (JJP), with four MLAs resigning in the past two days.

Among those who have stepped down are Devendra Babli, Anoop Dhanak, Ram Karan Kala, and Ishwar Singh. Devendra Babli, the MLA from Tohana and a former minister, has resigned from all his party positions and submitted his resignation letter to JJP President Ajay Chautala. Similarly, Anoop Dhanak, another MLA and former minister, and Ram Karan Kala have also left the party.

Ishwar Singh, who won the Guhla assembly seat in 2019 on a JJP ticket, has resigned from both his primary membership and all party responsibilities. His resignation has also been submitted to Ajay Chautala.

In the 2019 Haryana assembly elections, the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) emerged as the largest party, securing 40 seats with a vote share of 36.7%. The Congress followed with 31 seats and 28.2% of the votes, while the JJP won 10 seats with a 14.9% vote share. The Haryana Lokhit Party won one seat, and seven independents were also elected, though no party achieved the majority figure of 46 seats.

Following the election results, the BJP formed a government with support from the JJP, Haryana Lokhit Party, and independents. However, before the Lok Sabha elections, the BJP severed its alliance with the JJP, resulting in Nayab Singh Saini being appointed as Chief Minister, replacing Manohar Lal Khattar.
