HIROSHIMA: Upon Prime Minister Narendra Modi's arrival at the G7 meeting site in Hiroshima, Japan, Prime Minister Fumio Kishida of Japan gave him a cordial greeting.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi and his Japanese counterpart Fumio Kishida conducted a thorough analysis of every aspect of India-Japan relations during their bilateral meeting on Saturday morning. With a common commitment to enhancing global well-being, the leaders also discussed the major goals of Japan's G7 Presidency and India's G20 Presidency.

The two leaders discussed ways to coordinate the activities of their respective G-20 and G-7 Presidency during their discussion. The Global South's issues and priorities must be addressed, according to Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

They also discussed increasing collaboration in the Indo-Pacific area and traded opinions on recent regional events. The need to strengthen their bilateral Special Strategic and Global Partnership was acknowledged by both presidents.

The topics discussed included high technology, semiconductors, green hydrogen, tourism, lifestyle for the environment (LiFE), education, skill development, and digital public infrastructure. In addition, they discussed UN reform and counterterrorism policies.

Beginning today and lasting through May 21, the G7 Summit is being held in Hiroshima. It is interesting that Japan will preside over the G7 in 2023.

It is significant that Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy will meet in person for the first time since the start of the Russia-Ukraine conflict on February 24, 2022, when they do so in Tokyo.

The G7, a global organisation made up of powerful nations like the United States, Germany, the United Kingdom, and France, will gather in the Japanese city of Hiroshima.  The global oil crisis and other political and economic upheavals from the 1970s are seen to have contributed to the G7's founding.

Leaders of significant democratic nations established the G7 after realising the necessity for a forum to discuss important political and economic concerns. Russia was a member until 2014, when it was expelled for its invasion of Crimea, when it had its first meeting.
