NEW DELHI: The Supreme Court hearing in the Jaypee Infratech case on Thursday has been postponed. The Supreme Court has asked the central government to take a decision as soon as possible to protect the interests of thousands of home buyers. In the meantime, the central government assures the apex court that a decision will be taken at the earliest keeping in view the interests of home buyers.

The central government said, "We are constantly working in favour of homebuyers. The Centre told the apex court that since the matter is pending with the NCLT, we will take a decision in the matter only after a decision is taken by the NCLT. The next hearing in the Jaypee Infratech case will now be held on August 1. The case was heard by a bench of justices A M Khanwilkar and Dinesh Maheshwari.

Earlier in the hearing, the centre had told the court that it was working on a 'similar proposal' to address the grievances of home buyers who get stuck after giving their blood-sweating earnings to real estate companies. The apex court had taken a tough stand on the issue, saying that if the complaints of more than 21 thousand home buyers were not resolved in the Jaypee Infratech case, it would exercise its powers under Article 142 of the Constitution to protect their interests.
