Fodder Scam: Jharkhand HC defers Lalu's bail plea, next hearing to be held Feb 19

Ranchi: RJD supremo Lalu Prasad, who is serving a sentence in the fodder scam case, has not got relief from the court today. The bail petition in the case of illegal withdrawal of Rs 3 crore 13 lakh from the Dumka treasury will now be heard on February 19. Due to the non-filing of the affidavit on behalf of CBI, the decision could not be held, now the hearing will be on February 19.

The case will also be heard on the same day in case of a violation of the jail manual. The bail plea was heard in the Ranchi High Court for just half an hour in the court of Justice Aparesh Kumar Singh. Lalu Prasad has been sentenced to seven years in prison in connection with illegal extortion from the Dumka treasury. Lalu is a convict in a total of four cases, in three of which he has got bail after serving half the sentence. The fifth case is of illegal evacuation from Doranda treasury of Ranchi, in which the trial is still going on.

In the case of illegal withdrawal from the Dumka treasury, Lalu Prasad has been told that he has taken half the sentence and he is suffering from various diseases. Appearing for Lalu Prasad, senior advocate Kapil Sibal, while presenting the record, said that Lalu Prasad has spent 28 months and 29 days in jail. Half of his sentence of punishment has been completed. Another bail petition has been filed on this basis.
