Jindal Steel & Power Limited (JSPL) announced on Friday that it would turn its Odisha plant into the world's largest and greenest facility after acquiring the Utkal B1 and B2 coal blocks in the state's Angul-Talcher belt. Naveen Jindal, the company's chairman, said this, adding that JSPL has acquired adequate coal reserves to allow the giant steel business to increase its capacity for green steel production.He said that JSPL is the world's first steelmaker to construct a Coal Gasification plant to create steel utilizing clean coal technologies.

Greeting the people of Odisha on the occasion of Utkal Divas, Jindal stated, "On the 17th Punya Tithi of Shri OP Jindal Ji, who had a vision of utilising indigenous coal to create steel, we won the Utkal B1 & B2 Coal Block." This will assist us in realizing Bauji's and Biju Patnaik's united aim of bringing prosperity to Odisha through the value addition of natural resources and industrialization."

"Odisha is our karmabhoomi (place of employment), and we are dedicated to its total development." We will build the world's largest single-location steelmaking complex at Angul, Odisha, by 2030," he stated in a tweet, aligning with Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik's vision of industry-led holistic development.

The Odisha High-Level Clearance Authority, led by Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik, had accepted JSPL's proposal to expand its Angul steel plant's capacity to 25.2 MTPA by 2030. This will be the world's largest and greenest single-site steel factory, putting Odisha on the global steel map for the first time.
