New Delhi: The prestigious Jawaharlal Nehru University (JNU) abroad has been famous for its teaching work. The university has been one of the key places in the Modi government opposing the government's policies. The university is also known for its leftist attitude. So, there has been a frequent confrontation with the right-wing government at the Centre. In the meantime, it has been in a lot of controversies. Now, an MP has made a demand that could air further disputes. BJP MP and singer Hans Raj Hans from Delhi has suggested renaming Jawaharlal Nehru University as PM Modi.

Some others, including the JNU Students' Union, have reacted sharply to Hans' comments made on Saturday. This was suggested by HANS, an MP from north-west Delhi, at an evening martyrs' event. The event was organised by the RSS affiliated All India Students Council (ABVP) in honour of the martyred soldiers of the country. Speaking at the event, Hans said that the name of JNU should be changed to MNU. There should be something in Modiji's name. His remarks were reacted sharply by N Sai Balaji, president of JNU Students' Union.

He said, now that universities are turning into Jumla construction centres, why not name all the universities in Modi's name. In addition, Rama Naga, former general secretary of the JNU Students' Union, used the remarks to target Vice-Chancellor M Jagdish Kumar. Replying to a question, Congress spokesperson Abhishek Manu Singhvi said that he fears that the present government may change the name of the country. He said, "We are afraid that the name of our country will change. A person like him cannot be called a mainstream leader whose name you just mentioned.
