JNU Students Protest continues, demand complete roll-back of hostel fee hike

On Friday, representatives of the Jawaharlal Nehru University (JNU) Students' Union met with a high-powered committee set up by the Ministry of Human Resource Development (MHRD) to restore normalcy in the university in the campus's administrative building. No final decision was taken in this, after the end of the meeting, the student union said that the strike will continue. The four students' union representatives also submitted a memorandum to the committee regarding their demands.

According to the media report, the chairman of this committee of three members, the former chairman of the University Grants Commission (UGC), Prof. VS Chauhan. All India Technical Council (AICTE) Chairman Prof. Anil Sahastrabuddhe and UGC Secretary Prof. Rajneesh Jain is also involved in this. He was accompanied by a meeting of JNU Students Union President Ishi Ghosh, Vice President Saket Moon, General Secretary Satish Chandra Yadav and Joint Secretary M Danish. The meeting started at 4 pm and ended at 6 pm. After this, Ishi Ghosh said that the students' strike will continue, no compromise will be made with the demands. At the same time, the High-Level Committee told the Students Union that they will submit a report in this matter to the MHRD in three days. After this, a decision is expected.

In his statement, Saket Moon said that the hostel fees raised by the administration should be withdrawn immediately. The meeting of the Inter Hall Administration (IHA) committee regarding the new rules of hostels should be held again and students union representatives should be included in it. The rules of hostels should be implemented by negotiating within the democratic values of the institution. Do not decide this by a high-level committee.
