SEOUL: Korean President Yoon Suk Yeol, could hold a trilateral summit in Washington in July  with US President Joe Biden, and Japanese Prime Minister Fumio Kishida ahead of their 3-way discussions in Hiroshima, Japan. an official said on Monday, May 22.

"The possibility of holding a South Korea-United State-Japan summit this summer in Washington is being talked about," the presidential official notified.

The developmente comes the day after Biden suggested holding such a summit during a meeting with Yoon and Kishida outside of the G7 summit in Hiroshima.

To address the mounting crisis caused by China's military and economic aggression, North Korea's nuclear programme, and other factors, the three nations have been stepping up their trilateral collaboration.

The three leaders decided to take trilateral collaboration to a new level during their brief meeting on Sunday, according to Yoon's office.

The leaders of the three nations will meet in Washington if the meeting goes ahead for the first time, and not on the sidelines of a multinational conference.

Another presidential official referred to the leaders' frequent visits to one other's nations, as the leaders of South Korea and Japan do, and said that in the long run, this "could develop into a form of shuttle diplomacy" involving the leaders of South Korea, the US, and Japan.
