Shimla: Kalraj Mishra, who was a minister in the Modi government, has been appointed Governor of Himachal Pradesh by the President. On the other hand, Himachal Pradesh Governor Acharya Devvrat has been shifted to the Governor of Gujarat. As per the order of President Ram Nath Kovind, his appointment will be considered effective from the date of assuming office. This is the first such major appointment to the post of Governor after the Modi government returned to power for the second consecutive time in the 2019 Lok Sabha elections.

Kalraj Mishra had earlier served as Minister of Micro, Small and Enterprises (MSME) in the Modi government till 2017. He was also a member of the Rajya Sabha three times. Before the 2019 elections, he had announced that he would not contest the Lok Sabha elections this time and said that the party has entrusted him with many other important responsibilities and therefore he will not contest the Lok Sabha elections to fulfil him.

Several senior leaders over 75 years of age retired from active politics after 2014. On this basis, Kalraj Mishra resigned as minister in 2017. Acharya Devvrat, on the other hand, belongs to a non-political background. He was appointed Governor of Himachal Pradesh in 2015.
