US Current Campaign Trail Developments: Vice President Kamala Harris is actively evaluating her options for a potential running mate in the 2024 presidential election. Key candidates being considered are North Carolina Governor Roy Cooper, Pennsylvania Governor Josh Shapiro, Arizona Senator Mark Kelly, and Minnesota Governor Tim Walz.
Meanwhile, former President Donald Trump is sharpening his attacks now that President Joe Biden is not his primary rival. Trump has criticized Harris personally, calling her a "bum," and has depicted her as representing a disorderly border situation.
Recent polls reveal a tightening race, with some surveys indicating that Trump and Harris are neck and neck in several key battleground states.
Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer, D-N.Y., has weighed in on Trump’s vice presidential choice, Senator JD Vance from Ohio. Schumer suggested that selecting Vance could be a strategic blunder for Trump, potentially benefiting Democrats.
In an interview on CBS’s “Face The Nation,” Schumer labeled Vance as a “poor choice” for Trump’s running mate and speculated that Trump might be second-guessing his decision.
“I wouldn’t be surprised if President Trump is questioning his choice of Vance,” Schumer remarked. “It could turn out to be one of the best things he’s done for Democrats.”
Schumer also suggested that Trump, who he believes is closely following the news, might be re-evaluating Vance’s role. He questioned whether Trump should stick with Vance, who has accumulated significant controversy, or opt for a new pick.
Vance is currently facing criticism for previous comments he made about women. Last week, he reiterated his 2021 remarks about “childless cat ladies” in politics, describing them as sarcastic and accusing the media of misrepresenting his comments.
