KANPUR: Kanpur police have arrested two men for allegedly stealing Rs 40 lakhs in jewellery from a house in the city's Swaroop Nagar area earlier this month.
According to Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP) B.G.T.S Murthy, on the day of Maha Shivratri, Viraj Kohli filed a complaint at the Swaroop Nagar police station, and an investigation was launched. Police used surveillance to become suspicious of the housekeeper, identified as Mohit Pal, and apprehended him.
During interrogation, the suspect revealed that he and his brother Rohit planned the robbery.The other suspect was apprehended and confessed to the crime.They were also able to recover the stolen jewellery.
DCP Murthy also stated that Mohit Pal previously worked in Dubai but returned to Kanpur after losing his job during the Covid-19 pandemic.The Kohli family then hired him as a housekeeper.
