Kanpur, Uttar Pradesh:Â The cold wave has tightened its grip over Uttar Pradesh, with dense fog enveloping several regions, including Kanpur, following heavy rainfall. The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a warning for "dense fog," particularly affecting visibility in the area.
Temperature Drop and Weather Outlook
The weather in Kanpur has seen a sharp drop, with Sunday's maximum temperature expected to peak at 22 degrees Celsius, while the minimum could fall as low as 10 degrees Celsius. The IMD has forecasted dry conditions for most parts of Uttar Pradesh today, with dense fog likely to reduce surface visibility to 50–199 meters in isolated areas.
Dry weather is anticipated to persist through December 30 and 31, though dense fog is expected to continue. On Monday, Kanpur's minimum temperature may dip further to 9 degrees Celsius, intensifying the cold wave.
Impact on Residents
The biting cold has compelled Kanpur residents to huddle around bonfires for warmth. Meanwhile, Bareilly is also experiencing similar weather patterns, with a maximum temperature of 21 degrees Celsius and a minimum of 10 degrees Celsius predicted for Sunday. Dense fog is forecasted for December 30 in Bareilly as well.
Over the past two days, Kanpur recorded 34.1 mm of rainfall. Although light rain occurred early on Sunday, the skies remained predominantly cloudy throughout the day.
Meteorological Frorcast:Â According to the IMD, the weather conditions influenced by a Western Disturbance are expected to subside within the next 12 hours, paving the way for predominantly dry weather over the next five days. However, dense to very dense fog is anticipated on December 29 and 30, with dense fog continuing on December 31. Skies are expected to be partly cloudy on January 1 and 2.
Cold wave conditions are forecasted to persist in Kanpur from December 29 to January 3, with a sharp fall of 3–5 degrees Celsius in minimum temperatures over the next 48 hours.
Statewide Weather Snapshot
The IMD reported light to moderate rainfall in western Uttar Pradesh over the past 24 hours, while eastern regions experienced very light rain. Shallow to moderate fog was observed in isolated places, with dense fog in parts of eastern Uttar Pradesh.
Residents are advised to stay cautious during this period of extreme cold and fog, as visibility and temperatures continue to drop across the state.
