Bangalore: A case of love jihad has come to light in the Gadag district of Karnataka. Here a man named Mohammed Azaz has been accused of brutally killing his wife. The victim's name is Apoorva Puranik, who had changed her religion to marry Azaz. After becoming a Muslim, her name was changed to Arfa Banu. Azaz has stabbed his wife 23 times with an axe. Apoorva is undergoing treatment at GIMS District Hospital Gadag, where her condition remains critical. The incident is said to have taken place on Thursday (March 10).
According to media reports, a few days after the marriage, Apoorva and Azaz started quarrelling. Azaz was constantly pressurising Apoorva to cook non-vegetarian food, wear a burqa and adopt other Islamic methods. Apoorva refused to do so. As the situation worsened, Apoorva started living separately from Azaz. Finally, she decided to divorce Azaz. Due to continuous harassment, the victim had gone to live with her parents four months ago. From there, she filed a divorce case in court.
It is being told that on the day of the incident, Apoorva was learning to ride a bike. In the meantime, Azaz suddenly came there. He had an axe in his hand with which he attacked Apoorva's head, shoulders and face. He fled after the attack. Gadag district Superintendent of Police Shivaprakash Devaraju had ordered the arrest of the accused at the earliest. According to the information, the police have arrested the accused. The arrest took place at 3 am on Friday (March 11).
