Karnataka farmers get big gift, state government distributes free seeds to farmers worth Rs 12

Bangalore: The Karnataka government has taken a major decision in the interest of farmers amid the corona epidemic crisis and Monsoon-ravaging rains. The Karnataka government has distributed free mini kits worth Rs 12.6 crore to farmers for cultivation. This kit contains seeds for different crops. Karnataka Agriculture Minister B C Patil said in this regard on Monday.

Agriculture Minister B C Patil informed that under the National Food Security Mission Scheme, free mini kits worth Rs 12.6 crore have been distributed among farmers in 19 major producing districts of the state, including seeds of different crops. Talking to the press, Patil said that under the NFSM scheme, farmers have been provided with arhar, groundnut and soyabean seeds.

He said the scheme aims to encourage farmers to grow different crops. Patil said that in 2020-21, foodgrains were produced in 153.08 lakh hectares, which is 2 percent higher than the national average of the country, while in Karnataka it is 10 percent higher than the state average.
