BENGALURU: The Karnataka High Court has granted the rape accused student permission to sit for the B.com test. The defendant is accused of raping a minor girl.

On Tuesday, a single bench led by Justice V. Shreeshananda issued an order directing that the accused be permitted to write his papers in a separate room and that security officers be assigned.

The accused should be taken directly from prison to the examination centre and returned to prison after the examination. The accused should not be shackled, and any police officers accompanying him should be dressed in civil dressing.

In January, the accused was charged at Bengaluru's Channammanakere Achukattu police station. The accused's attorney contended that it was a matter of love rather than rape.

The lawyer also asked the court to give bail to the accused so that he could sit for his B.com exams, which are set to take place between March 15 and March 31. The case is still being investigated, according to the bench. A student's future cannot be jeopardised by allowing him to sit for exams.
