BANGALORE: A Public Interest Litigation (PIL) has been filed in Karnataka High Court seeking an investigation into transfer threat to judge H.P. Sandesh.

On Saturday, the High Court is scheduled to hear the Public Interest Litigation that was filed by attorney Ramesh L. Nayak. The High Court Registrar General and the Chief Secretary of the State Government are parties to the petition.

It suggests that a special wing investigate the threat against Justice Sandesh and provide appropriate security coverage. The plea persuades the government to take into account giving Justice Sandesh "Y," "Y Plus," "Z," or "Z Plus" security cover. According to the petitioner, in the wake of such threats, judges won't be able to function impartially.

This would send the wrong message to society. The action should be taken in terms of protecting the liberty of the judiciary and should also take steps to instill more confidence among people in the judiciary, the petition says.

Justice H.P. Sandesh has taken the ruling BJP to task with regard to the appointments to the Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB). After his rapping, ACB sleuths detained Bangalore Urban DC on charges of corruption.

According to Justice Sandesh, a High Court judge threatened to transfer him, but he is unconcerned about it. He added that rather than giving in to pressure, he is prepared to return to his land and resume farming.
