BANGALORE: : Karnataka Police said on Saturday, September 10, that they have arrested the 46-year-old husband and parents of a 14-year-old girl on charges of child marriage in Yelahanka New Town of Bangalore.
The priest who conducted the marriage is now being searched by the police.
The school-dropout girl is currently being held in a government shelter for women in Wilson Garden in Bangaloreafter being transferred to the care of the Child Welfare Committee (CWC).
The accused husband is identified as N. Guruprasad, a landlord from Chikkabettahalli. The girl's parents work as daily-wage workers.
According to the police, the accused Guruprasad used the money to entice the girl's parents.
When the youngster sobbed in front of the proprietor of a PG facility, where she had gone to work with her aunt, the incident was made public.
The girl said to him that she had been wed at a temple to a man who was 46 years old. The PG's owner then called the police.
Police said, Guruprasad's wife had abandoned him years before and he was childless. He addressed the girl's parents via an elderly woman after observing the girl and their unfortunate situation.
For Rs 15,000, he was able to persuade the parents to let him marry their daughter.
The parents admitted to the police that they have three children and that their 14-year-old daughter had to be married off to the 46-year-old guy due to financial constraints.
