BANGALORE: A video of a woman being dragged, kicked and beaten with sticks in a temple in Bangalore has went viral on social media.

police said on Friday, the culprit is Munikrishna, the "dharamdarshi" of the Lakshmi Narasimha Swamy temple in the Amruthahalli area, and the victim Hemavathi reported the crime to the Amruthahalli police station on December 21.

The woman can be seen being repeatedly slapped, grabbed by the hair, and taken outdoors in the footage. She is seen running for shelter while the accused is seen striking her with a stick.

The IPC's Section 354 has been invoked in a case against Munikrishna.

Munikrisha, however, reported to the police that the woman wanted to sit close to the statue in the sanctum sanctorum and stated that Lord Venkateshwara was her husband. She spit on the priest when her demand was denied, and she was then told to leave. He told police that the woman was battered and taken out because she refused to listen.
